Your children may already recognise the Future is Wild brand from the TV series, or from the fantastic ride at the Futuroscope theme park in France. How will the world look in 5 million, 100 million and 200 million years? How will the continents look? Will it be hot or cold? And what kinds of fantastic creatures will be walking the Earth? These are the questions The Future is Wild sets out to answer, by involving the world’s leading scientists in creating a fully animated vision of what we might find, if only we could travel in time. Everything you’ll see is based on the best available science. No event or animal is outside the realms of possibility. It could all happen – so get ready for the voyage of a million lifetimes!
The Future is Wild CD-ROM for children aged 9 to 13 allows you to travel to the distant future and explore one interpretation of how the Earth’s changing climate and geography could affect the evolution of new species over millions of years. This interactive and immersive simulation offers an innovative way of learning about habitats, interdependence and adaptation.
Users can explore 12 habitats in 3 futuristic time zones (5 million, 100 million and 200 million years in the future), and can view images and video clips of life on the changing Earth. Users will assimilate visual information and fill in data cards about new and fascinating creatures such as the Gannetwhale, Snowstalker, or Deathgleaner , in order to complete engaging assignments, or to build up their own Future is Wild database.
There are three levels of activity, ranging from structured tasks to a more open ended Explore mode, enabling The Future is Wild to be used by children with a wide range of abilities.
On successfully completing an end of assignment quiz, users will be shown an on-screen certificate, with appropriate information and images relating to the habitat they have just completed. Users are also awarded a printable certificate when data cards are created for all creatures at Level 3.
